'Pitch-In' for Fitness Fun Day/Astro-turf replacement
Our astroturf pitch is unfortunately approaching the end of its natural lifespan and needs to be replaced at a cost of over £50,000. We have been in communication with the Education Authority regarding replacement which has now been agreed on the proviso that school makes a significant contribution towards the cost.
In addition to the actual ‘carpet’ being replaced, a new drainage system is also required in order to prevent flooding.
We would therefore appreciate parental support to enable us to contribute towards the cost, as required by EA. For that purpose, we hope to organise the following events before the end of the school year:
- Sponsored Workout 'Pitch-in' Fitness Fun Day
This will be held on Tuesday 28 March when children should wear their sports kit to school to take part in a sponsored workout in the Assembly Hall. In this respect, children have been given a sponsorship card which should be returned on 28 March, please.
- Friends of Pond Park (Business Sponsorship)
We also hope to have support from local businesses which have connections to school, through becoming a ‘Friend of Pond Park’ and making a donation towards the project. In return, the business support will be acknowledged on signage at the entrance to the pitch. If you are aware of a business or company which would be willing to support school in this way, we would be grateful if they would make contact.
- School Council
Our School Council will also organise events during the summer term to assist with fundraising. Further details will follow from the Council Committee.
We are extremely fortunate to have an astroturf pitch which all the children benefit from for sport and games. It is important that it is kept in good order for health and safety reasons and we are grateful that the Education Authority has committed to replacement, albeit with our support.
I therefore encourage you to assist us in our fundraising for this purpose and trust that the children will enjoy the sponsored workout.
Thank you.
